Teachers endorse Bifwoli for Bungoma senator

Bungoma - A section of teachers in
Bungoma County have endorsed former
Bumula Mp, Bifwoli Wakoli, to vie for
the senatorial seat by-election slated for
December 19.
The teachers said that Wakoli is much
suited to be the Bungoma senator
because of his experience as a teacher
and a politician, having represented
Bumula constituency for two terms and
as Lands Assistant Minister in the
Kibaki’s regime.
Led by Bungoma North Kenya National
Union of Teachers (Knut) executive
secretary, Seme Sunguti, the teachers
over the weekend unanimously
endorsed Wakoli saying that he is well
placed to be the Bungoma’s senator
because he fought for the rights of
teachers during his tenure as the
teachers' representative.
Speaking during the Bungoma teacher’s
education scheme annual general
meeting held at Maliki boy’s high school
on Saturday, Wakoli hinted that he will
contest for the seat on Labour Party of
Kenya (LPK) ticket.
“I left Ford Kenya party in June 2013
after the owners seemed to be fearing
those who would offer them
competition. I have decided to join LPK
so that I contest this vacant seat
because am currently jobless,” said
Wakoli.
He noted that residents of Bungoma
County have their own democratic right
to vote in any leader of their choice and
asked voters to be wary of leaders who
won’t fulfill what they promise during
their campaigns.
The former legislator castigated
contestants who carry youths to funerals
to cause chaos saying that their time is
long gone and should concentrate on
selling their policies instead of engaging
in unnecessary public shout outs.
He called on leaders from outside
Bungoma County to stop being used to
cause chaos and instead be peace-loving
Kenyans.
He was reacting to an ugly incident that
took place in Tongaren constituency
where Cord and Amani coalition
supporters fought each other after an
ODM national youth leader Rashid
Mohamed from Mumias accused New
Ford Kenya party leader of asking for
handouts from the government officials.
A number of people have declared their
interest for the seat, including former
Bungoma senator Moses Wetang’ula
(Ford Kenya), Musikari
Kombo (New Ford Kenya), Juma
Mukhwana (TNA), Journalist David Makali
(independent candidate), Lawrence
Sifuna (United republican party) and
former presidential candidate Nickson
Kukubo (party not yet named).
