Cord denies supporting deferral of ICC cases

Nairobi - Members of the Coalition for
Reforms and Democracy (Cord) have
denied earlier media reports that they
had agreed on the deferral of the cases
facing President Uhuru Kenyatta and his
deputy William Ruto at The Hague.
President Kenyatta’s party, The National
Alliance (TNA), had praised the move
that was reported to have been agreed
upon in a meeting that was led by
former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and
former Bungoma Senator Moses
Wetang’ula on Tuesday in Nairobi, The
Standard reports.
However, Cord refuted the reports
saying their stand on International
Criminal Court (ICC) has not changed
and the process should continue, urging
the Jubilee alliance to follow the Rome
Statute in seeking deferral.
Trial for Ruto and former radio presenter
is on-going at ICC and the sessions were
extended to November 8 to make up for
lost time, while President Kenyatta’s
trial is set to begin on 12 November.
